REALM ROVERS 2021 Relay for Life – Recap

This past June 9th 2021 The REALM ROVERS hosted a successful Relay for Life.

Everyone who attended raved about how much fun they had, and appreciated the safety measures in place to that allowed the event to take place. We have posted below some hot takes of a few of the attendees.

The survivor’s lap is important to me because I beat cancer and I am alive today. I am proud to be a cancer survivor. The luminary ceremony is important to me because I think about my friend, Kyle Fawcett who lost his life to cancer. I remember him by lighting a luminary, I miss him. I am happy to do the survivor’s lap because I get to walk with other survivor’s.

The rovers hosted their Relay for Life event with following activities.

  • Pancake Breakfast Kick off from McDonalds
  • Beginning lap (T-shirts for team members handed out)
  • Hula Hawaiian lap
  • Lunch McDonalds cheeseburgers
  • Crazy hat lap
  • The fancy mask lap
  • On-site event – Paint me to the wall
  • Survivors and luminary lap
  • Raffle drawings, baskets, and Sparkling Island drawing winners announced

The Relay for Life is an important event for Philip. His Mom is a cancer survivor, so it is very meaningful for him to participate and raise money for cancer research. This year, Philip completed 20 laps and received the award for the most laps walked for the day. Philip’s favourite part of relay is walking the laps. He also enjoys the food and the activities.

Raymond enjoys participating in the relay for life to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. This year there were pancakes and hot dogs for sale to raise money for cancer research. Raymond’s favourite part of the relay this year was the pancake breakfast and getting to wear a grass skirt and a lei to participate in the hula lap.
