Members of the Self-Advocates of the Rockies and three DSP’s from REALM along with REALM’s practicum student Takara Mohnssen traveled to Richmond for the 2019 Self-Advocates Conference at the Executive Inn Airport Plaza Hotel & Conference Centre.
The theme for the conference “Leading the Way to Independence.” The conference was hosted by Inclusion Langley Society and the Richmond Society of Community Living. The day was opened by Minister Shane Simpson from the Ministry of Social Development & Poverty Reduction and Keynote Speaker Matthew Williams but there were many speakers throughout the day.
Our group divided into smaller pairs for informative workshops at the conference and some of the topics involved were: Discover your Gifts, Safety with the RCMP, Housing Panel, etc.
Overall, we as a group did enjoy our time at the conference and we thank the DSP’s and Takara who came along for the support to us as Self-Advocates and especially REALM with the assistance for the travel funds and everything.
Yours sincerely,
The Self-Advocates of the Rockies
